Invention: Einem

einem
eminem

Development: Scarabeo

pincer moves
letter formations
hard shell games
under which casing is the coin
under which glass the nut to crack

verdun
vaux
somme
arras
ypres
passchendaele

i don't know in which field they were buried
but the generals made the moves
and got the medals

games played on maps
with counters and wooden pieces

now death watch beetles
spell out their names

Development: Refuge

this refuge
for those wanting a lie down
a bottle
a concrete floor with a fence
is opposite the perfect blue shrine

Invention: Shrine

consecration
devotion
reliquary

Invention: Emblem

everything within a few minutes walk is new
when framed at a ratio
of four to three

Invention: Peat

here they drive peat along the streets
consuming petroleum from the north sea
or kuwait or iraq
so that turf from the county
can burn in chimneys
as before

Invention: Birds

do we dream of birds and flight
because we wish to transcend?

do we dream of falling with terror
because predators await below the trees to eat us?

remember that birds too
snatch meat from the bone
and peck out each other's
eyes

Invention: Grid

we impose a grid over an unbound field of texture
in order to divide it up
compartmentalise
understand it better

but then forget to properly study
the grid itself
how it must be mounted
how it hangs
and rusts
and the shadows it casts

Development: Wear Me

this photo is already a lie

Invention: Sponge Entry System

this new sponge entry system is being tested
for installation
as an alternative to other
security devices

Invention: Joseph Beuys

I couldn't find my hat
so I took a photo of Joseph Beuys
on a video feed

Development: The Task Of Thinking

the task of thinking
wink
ink
in
i

Invention: Mirror Reproduction

reproduced in the mirror
is the after-image of me
taking the photo
something so common
as to now be banal

but the image in the mirror was there
before the photo

and the photo is now there
before me

Invention: Three Photographers

three photographers take pictures of each other
so i take pictures of them
since i still have this idea
that production is better
than consumption

Development: Radio Studio

this cross marks a specific distance
from a microphone
sit here so the listeners can best pick out
the sound of your voice against
the background hum of space

looking at the cross one can hear the voices
issued from radio, through the atmosphere,
into space,
invisibly

to speak on radio is to summon up
an unknown audience from the aether

to perform in front of a blank screen
with only a pencil-thin microphone
and bulbous headphones
standing in for contact

Invention: Spire

if the cloud was not here
we would have to assemble a tem of architects
to design it,
CAD operators to create
a specific wireframe model,
and engineers to erect it,
pinned static
against a floating paint-blue sky

Invention: Keys

space is controlled by:
entry codes
keys
social protocols
government regulations
expectations
a dog named Wilson

Invention: Wilson

a picture of a dog carrying a sponge in its mouth:
the picture represents the dog and sponge
the sponge represents an idea
the dog represents...
a dog

Development: Black Cross

this cross marks an idea realm
it exists in the physical
(this one exists in the virtual)

an idea realm is a site for potentiality
something might happen here
we expect it

this realm has been transgressed
by a white stripe
there is a conflict here
brought to the surface
written in tape

Invention: The Face Above

the face looks down from above
a silent stare indicating
it knows something
that we don't know
